What's your weird?

This week's Listography is the top 5 random things you like, but they have to be really random.  As Kate (the linky hostess) said, we don't want to hear "I like chocolate."  Since I'm pretty weird, this shouldn't be too difficult.

Here goes:

1)  I get equal enjoyment from a serious philosophical discussion of the themes in Aldous Huxley's Brave New World as I do from a Britney Spears concert.  This means I often feel like some kind of cultural double agent, since the types of people I encounter in both situations don't tend to like each other much.

2)  I love cat shows.  I don't just wander up and down the aisles either - I sit in the front row of the judging and take a great interest in the judge's examination of the cat and description of the breed standards.  Yes, they call me crazy cat lady.

3)  I like reading.  As in, I have 855 books in my house and may need to convert a second room into a library soon.  And I've read most of them and plan to read them all again.

4)  I like to eat potato chips only if they're all curled up, and will search through the whole bag for the ones that are "just right."  My husband thinks this is very odd behaviour, but I recently found a Facebook page called "I Prefer the Potato Chips Curled Up," so obviously I'm not alone.

5)  Speaking of being alone, I'm with Kate.  There's nothing I enjoy more than a solid 24 hours without having to talk to anyone.  I need and crave solitude and quiet to a level that's difficult to explain, and the constant deprivation of both has been the hardest part of motherhood so far.

Your turn - what are your random likes?

  1. These are random and fantastic! I'm so glad you stopped by so I could stop by your "place", too. And hmm...are you sure YOU didn't start that weird potato chip page so you wouldn't feel alone? ;-)

  2. I actually enjoy 24 hours of solitude as well. I don't think that's odd. Everybody needs quiet time. Besides, how can you read with a million noises going off in the background?

My #1 all time weird thing is....Dipping my french fries in mayo and ketchup. I get so many "you're a weirdo" looks from people when I do that. But it's so good! I just can't stop myself.

  3. I hear you on the re-reading. I like to keep lots of books around to lend out and take for a second spin. And curly potato chips, you say? I will never be able to eat a flat one again.

  4. Brilliant. I love chips curled up but I'll eat any. I never finished Brave New World. I should find it and start again. what I did read I found fascinating, I have no idea, oh yeah that's right my husband stole it back off me. I so wish we had a room to devote to books! My hubby and daughter love books too so maybe one day.

  6. I would be in heaven if I could have an entire room devoted only to books!

I like the overly deep fried french fries. The ones that are almost translucent from the oil. I search those out and eat them first.

  7. Is it weird that I don't find any of these weird? Oh no...... don't tell me I'm...... please no.... not....'NORMAL'???

I need to go lie down.

  8. I envy your collection of books. Also, I too prefer the curled up potato chips, but it doesn't stop me from polishing off the rest of the chips in the bag.

  10. I love the library... walking through the aisles of books and running my fingers along them... smelling that "smell" that old books have... by the way, I don't think that this is weird behaviour!

  12. If you eat two straight chips at the same time does this have the same effect as a curled one?

  15. GREAT list! And I totally get what you mean with number one - why does the enjoyment of one seem to automatically cancel out the enjoyment of the other? Embrace it all, that's what I say!

  16. I'm certainly with you on the books (we gave up counting years ago at 10,000!!!!) and the crisps.

  17. I have always enjoyed my ability to relate to diverse groups of people that would struggle to relate to each other - I think of it more as being a "cultural chameleon".
Love the curly crisps too. They are special. x

  18. I'm after a library. Although I have to admit I generally only read a book once. But I like to feel the pages and the cover...strange in itself I guess!

  22. I can so identify with number 3. We need another house just to house all the books everywhere, so my very own library would be fantastic! :-)

  23. I'm with you. Quiet alone time is one of my favorite things. I also like to hear a baby laugh. It always cracks me up. As for the rest of my random likes.. I love philosophical debates also, and if it's random it's going to catch my attention.

  24. Love your blog! (:
Hm, let's see.. I only eat squishy fries. None of that crispy or curly stuff. Just mega-squish.
And I like to shop. As in, over 400 articles of clothing occupies what was once a bedroom...
Yeahhh. Can you say boarderline hoarder? Yep! Thaaaaat's me!!

  25. I definitely like some alone time too and would be very happy with a whole day to myself. I can't think of any random likes off the top of my head, but I do think I'll share a random dislike: people's feet CANNOT touch me. Something about it just grosses me out haha.
