Serotonin smorgasbord

Today is my first writing challenge with Trifecta. The challenge is:

"1n 1959, Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote the music for the Broadway production, The Sound of Music. One of the most famous songs from the musical is "My Favorite Things." Since its inception, the song has been covered by countless artists, and we're asking you to follow suit. Give us a few of your favorite things, in whichever form you want, in 33 words exactly."

Alone in the silent sunshine, flushed from dancing, ice cream dripping down my hand.  Digging until it hurts to reach the beauty and poison, letting it flow out my fingertips, leaving me cleansed.

  1. Ice cream is getting to be a popular favorite thing :) I like this. It has a rawness to it.

    1. Thanks. That's why I didn't read any of the other entries before I wrote this. I didn't want to avoid a genuine favourite thing just because it was popular.

  2. Especially for the 33-word challenges, I never read anyone's for that reason. But, hey girl! I know you're a dancer! And I'm a digger, too! Always love your writing which I hope you know!

  3. Cleansing is often needed - painful though it may be. Glad you joined the challenge. (and I'm with you - I never read other posts until I've written my own.)

  5. Well done! 33 words exactly, that's an interesting and tough challenge.

    1. What's crazy is I wrote the whole second line, went to check my word count and it was 33 exactly. Normally I have to do major editing and tweaking to do these types of exact word count challenges.

  8. Nice. All of it. I find the 33 word challenges to be more difficult than the longer ones. On the surface, at least, it doesn't appear you have that problem. Great job!

    1. Thanks! I haven't tried the longer one yet - we'll see how it goes.

  9. Nice! It's so interesting to me that often times cutting down on length can give more meaning to a piece of writing. Thirty three words means no room for fat.

    1. This is the shortest micro-challenge I've done and I was a little intimidated. But it was really fun. I'm looking forward to doing it again.

  11. Welcome aboard the Trifecta train. Thanks so much for linking up this weekend. I love how you made this piece uniquely your own--even with a shared favorite like ice cream. Great job. Hope to see you back soon.
